When UT Physicians Women’s Center outgrew its original suite, they acquired the two adjacent suites to expand and meet patient demand. UT Physicians hired AMB Architects for the medical office design and expansion. The expanded Women’s Center more than doubled in size, from 2,000 s.f. to 4,250 s.f.
UT Physicians Women’s Center is in the Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital complex. The medical clinic treats the full range of women’s health needs, including specialized care. With the expansion, the number of exam rooms grew from 4 to 8. The clinic was also able to add dedicated rooms for ultrasound and infusion therapy.
To accommodate infusion treatment, UT Physicians needed to include a clean room with a fume hood for safe handling of the chemotherapy drugs. AMB worked with a specialty consultant on cleanroom specifications. Retroactively inserting the ductwork for the hood exhaust proved to be a challenge. Due to the existing conditions, the ductwork had to be re-routed. AMB coordinated directly with the HVAC subcontractor and general contractor to find a solution, which the MEP engineer reviewed and approved.
The resulting UT Physicians Women’s Center – Southeast provides a very patient-centric experience with an improved layout for the waiting area, efficient workflow between spaces for the staff, and an overall welcoming feel.
UT Physicians has relied on AMB Architects for more than eight years to provide interior architecture on a variety of projects.
