Stream Realty wanted a compact new fitness center that packed a punch for their Class A Sierra Pines office building. They envisioned a high-end center with a spa-like vibe, where building tenants could easily access various workout regimes. Tenants also wanted a space where they could focus on physical and mental wellness. AMB Architects designed a beautiful 2,450 s.f. center to rival any private resort.
The new Sierra Pines Fitness Center is tucked into a corner on the ground floor of The Reserve at Sierra Pines. It is available to every building tenant. Though it was added after the building opened, it blends seamlessly into the office thanks to a consistent materials palette. AMB worked with acoustical and structural consultants on soundproofing and vibration control; tenants around and above the center will never be disrupted by activities within the fitness center.
Fitness center users are greeted by a garden wall in the entry foyer of the center. Stream Realty wanted a statement design element, something easy to maintain. AMB responded with a custom installation that incorporates graphic tiles and a variety of living reindeer moss. Off the entry, users can access locker rooms with accessible showers and changing areas. There is a mix of weightlifting machines, free weights, and exercise equipment in the main workout room. Here, AMB used extra-thick rubber flooring for sound and vibration control, plus an articulated felt ceiling. The transitions between the different flooring materials in the entry, locker rooms, and workout areas are seamless to meet ADA requirements.
There is a flex space adjacent to the workout area, to allow for group exercise classes and other types of gatherings. Stream wanted the flexibility to join the spaces. In response, AMB included a vertical retractable door. It opens with the touch of a button and has acoustic dampening on it, plus frosted glass to control privacy. Given the heightened sensitivity to high-touch areas, AMB specified durable materials throughout the fitness center, knowing they would be sanitized frequently.
